525,600 minutes

Have not had a chance to see most of the new releases. So this evening I was determined to go and check out one if not two of them.

Trooped down to Imax and was told that there was a "slight technical problem" with the 8:15 show of Rent. Fortunately for me five other people also turned up to see the movie as well and guess what Suddenly "No more Technical Problems".

The ran the movie for just the 6 of us. It was the last screening that they were planning for the movie and I am so glad I could see it.

OK so sue me - I am a sucker for Musicals. Give me a movie with a nice soundtrack and I am hooked.

Right from the first scene with the spotlight on the 8 of them as they belt out the stunning 525,600 minutes to the totally soppy finale I was totally transported into the world of these characters.

The last big screen movie that I had seen was Crash, and while the Critics and the Academy may not agree with me on this one I prefered Rent.

Perhaps what worked for me in the whole movie was the fact that the only real relationship that worked and survived in the movie was the one between Angel and Tom.

It was a movie about AIDS with being overly heavy and down beat.
It was a movie about failing relationships without being depressing.
It was a movie about love withing being soppy.

But above all of that it was a movie with SONGS! Songs that in the privacy of a nearly empty and dark theatre, I could strum my air-guitar to, switch over to the air piano and then move smoothly over to the air-drums. without for a single moment giving up the microphone as I led in the vocals.

I had a BLAST!!

Even as I type this out I am listening to the soundtrack and reliving every moment of the movie again. I wiosh I could put a link to the audio to this blog if for no other reason to let the philistines among you experience good music.

Wow. Have heard so much about Rent. It's a pity its gone by. I can imagine you playing your air instruments in the empty multiplex.

On the subject of music, you must hear this new guy James Blunt. What. A. Voice. What a cutie.

I watched Rent on Broadway in NYC. Was awesome. I love the character of Angel.
